Mike Edwards
Family:
Mike has two sons, Tyler, who is a freshman at Kennesaw State University,
and Austin, a senior at Kennesaw Mountain High School. Both Tyler and Austin ran cross
country and track at KMHS.
What
is your background in running?
In high school, Mike described himself as Òa bad pole vaulter
and a slow sprinter in Track and Field.Ó Mike began running distance 27 years ago, as way to stay
fit and compete in triathlons.
What
is your favorite running trail?
Any trail anywhere, Mike loves to run on trails. It is where
he finds peace and can escape the real world. When Mike travels, he has been
known to drive to the wide-open spaces and start running on paths that
could lead me to anywhere or nowhere.
What
do you think is the most pertinent issue in running today?
Within Cobb County, the biggest issue is a lack of places to
run. If you run on the roads, you take your life in your own hands. Automobile
drivers have little or no respect for a pedestrian. It is very obvious by the over
crowding of Kennesaw Mountain Battle Field that there is a serious lack of
open green space for the current population. Cobb County is completely built for the automobile. Cues could be taken from other
areas around the country who have come up with solutions, Pinellas County
in Florida, San Diego, Seattle, and Portland.
What do you hope RunCobb will accomplish?
Mike hopes that RunCobb will bring an awareness of running in
Cobb County.
