David Ravenscraft

Family:

David and Carol, his wife of 15 years, have 4 children: Lindsay (11), Eric (8), Maddy (5), and Mark (2).  David and Carol are avid runners, and Lindsay runs for the JR Mustang XC team.  David and Carol have been in Cobb County for 15 years after relocating from Pennsylvania and New Jersey after college.  They met at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania.  David is currently teaching PE at Hayes Elementary and is the head cross country coach at Kennesaw Mountain High School.  Carol is also a teacher, teaching special education for 10 years in the Cobb County schools, but she is currently at home with their children.

What is your background in running?

David started running as a sophomore in high school on the cross country and track teams.  He attended Sharon High School in Sharon, PA and continued to run in college at Slippery Rock.  David ran cross country, and indoor and outdoor track, specializing in anything above 800 meters.  His interest in running began when his high school coach, Chris Houck, noticed him running during PE class.  He asked if David would like to run cross country, and he mentioned that he thought that he could be good at it.  Because of his attention and interest, David was hooked and has been running ever since!

What is your favorite running trail?

David prefers running on the trails at the Cheatham Hill parking area of the Kennesaw Battlefield National Park.  He can go in any direction and loves it!

What do you think is the most pertinent issue in running today?

We need more running areas in Cobb.  We need to help the Cobb County Parks and Recreation Department find and develop land specifically for running.

What other organizations, teams, or other activities are you involved with?

David has been the head cross country coach at Kennesaw Mountain High School since the school opened in 2000.  Prior to KMHS, he was a cross country and track coach for Wheeler High School for 8 years.

What do you hope RunCobb will accomplish?

David hopes that RunCobb can be an advocate for Cobb County runners of all ages and organizations.
