Alex Holmgren
Family:
Alex
and his wife, Meredith, have been residents of Cobb County for 9
years. They have one son named
Miller.
What
is your background in running?
Alex
started running cross-country and track as a senior in high school in Port
Charlotte, FL. After falling
in love with the sport, he decided to pursue running as a walk-on at Auburn
University. He ran from
1992-94 for Kelly Sullivan and Olympian Harvey Glance, focusing on the
distance events (including the steeplechase). After giving up the sport temporarily because of
constant injuries, he picked-up again when he became a Community Coach for
Kennesaw Mountain High School Cross-Country, working for Head Coach David
Ravenscraft. Holmgren also coached
boysÕ and girlsÕ distance for the KMHS track teams from 2001-2006. He will continue his 7th
cross-country season in the fall.
What
is your favorite running trail?
The
5-mile loop at Cheatham Hill is his favorite trail, but also enjoys running
at Lost Mountain Park.
What
do you think is the most pertinent issue in running today?
The most important issue for runners is
developing and maintaining places to run for future generations.
What do you hope RunCobb will accomplish?
RunCobb will tackle important issues
in the running community and will also give the runners of Cobb County a
common voice. It will provide
some sorely needed representation where there has been very little in the
past.
